What is Alma TED?

How it works

Alma TED Hair Restoration in Calgary is a great choice for people with hair thinning or loss.  It uses a specialized combination of ultrasound sound waves and air pressures to temporality bypass the scalp's protective barrier and our proprietary hair serum. This innovative process drives Alma's proprietary TED+ Hair Care Formula (which includes Growth factors and peptides, essential vitamin, minerals and botanical extracts deep into the scalp, delivering potent nutrients, growth factors) and peptides directly to the hair follicles. By stimulating blood flow and reaching the hair bulbs directly, this treatment effectively encourages the growth of thick, strong and healthy hair.

What Causes Hair Thinning and Loss?

Genetics

The most common reason people lose their hair is written in their DNA. Andogenetic Alopecia, also known as male or female pattern baldness - affects millions of people worldwide, and it doesn't always wait until you're older to show up.

For men, it often begins with receding hairline or thinning crown, sometimes as early as their 20s. For women, it typically shows as an overall loss of volume and density, especially after menopause- though it can start much sooner. It's gradual at first, which is exactly why early treatment matters. The sooner you act, the more hair you protect.

Hormonal Changes

Hormones have a bigger impact on your hair than most people realize. Pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, and thyroid imbalances can all trigger noticeable thinning or shedding.

Estrogen helps keep hair strong and its growth phase- when those levels drop, hair can follow. DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), a hormone derived from testosterone, is a key driver of follicle miniaturization in both men and women.

Medications and Medical Treatments

Certain medications list hair loss as a side effect - including antidepressants, blood thinners, beta-blockers, hormonal medications and immunosuppressants.  Chemotherapy and radiation are well-known causes of temporary hair loss. More recently, weight loss medications semaglutide (Ozempic) have also been linked to hair thinning in some users.

Aging

As we age, the hair growth cycle naturally slows. The active growth phase (anagen) shortens, fewer follicles stay active, and overall density decreases. reduced scalp circulation means less delivery of the nutrients your follicles need to produce strong, healthy hair. Sebum (oil) production also declines, leaving hair drier and more prone to breakage.

Stress & Hair Loss

Chronic stress is one of the most underestimated causes of hair loss. It can trigger a condition called Telogen Effluvium, where large numbers of hairs are pushed prematurely into shedding phases at once. Elevated cortisol levels from ongoing stress also interfere with the normal hair growth cycle, sometimes causing shedding weeks or even months after the stressful events.

Environmental Factors

Your environmental takes a toll too. Air pollution can clog hair follicles, UV exposure weakens the scalp and hair cuticle, and extreme temperatures - hot or cold - dry out the scalp. Harsh chemical treatments like bleaching, dyeing, and relaxers cause cumulative structural damage that, over time, can lead to breakage and permanent loss.

The Benefits

Non-Invasive Treatments

Alma TED uses ultrasound technology and air pressure to open micro-pathways into escape, delivering powerful hair growth serums exactly where they're needed- deep at the follicle level. No needles, no cuts, no discomfort. Just a relaxing 30-45 minute session and you walk out the door.

Fits Into Your Life

Zero recovery time. No scalp sensitivity, no restrictions, no rearranging your schedule. You can head straight back to work, the gym or your day.

Real, Visible Results
Alma TED wakes up weakened and dormant follicles by delivering active nutrients directly to the root. Most clients notice reduced shedding within the first few weeks, with visible improvements in density and thickness building over each session.

Customizable Treatment

No two hair loss journeys are the same. Your specialist will customize every session based on your hair loss pattern, target areas and personal goals- ensuring your treatment plan works for your hair.

Works for Many Types of Hair Loss

Whether your thinning is driven by genetics, hormonal changes, stress, or early-stage loss, Alma TED is designed to help. If you're not sure whether you're a candidate, your free scalp analysis will give you a clear, honest answer.

The Process

The benefit of having TED done in salon is that your scalp is properly cleansed and prepared to receive the full benefits of the serum. We will start with photos and analysis of the scalp, followed by a cleanse or scrub to fully remove excess scalp sebum. Hair will be roughly blow dried prior to beginning the treatment which takes about 30-40 minutes. Alma's proprietary topical hair care formula will be applied in mapped sections of the scalp using TED.

The sound waves used in Alma TED are at a specific frequency that causes tiny bubbles to expand and collapse within the skin, temporarily increasing permeability. The mechanical pressure of the sound waves also helps to deliver the compounds through the skin.

Hair is not to be washed for 48 hours post procedure.
